The Nostromo is a commercial towing vessel that appears in the 1979 science fiction horror film Alien, directed by Ridley Scott. The ship is operated by a seven-member crew, including the protagonist, Ellen Ripley (played by Sigourney Weaver).
The Nostromo is a large, bulky spacecraft designed to haul enormous amounts of ore and other resources through space. Its crew is awoken from their cryogenic sleep early when the ship’s computer detects a distress signal coming from a nearby planet. The crew is ordered to investigate the signal, and they land on the planet’s surface.
During the mission, the crew encounters a mysterious alien creature that begins to hunt and kill them one by one. As the crew members try to survive and figure out how to escape, they discover that the ship’s science officer, Ash (played by Ian Holm), has been secretly ordered by the company to bring the alien back to Earth, even if it means sacrificing the entire crew.
The Nostromo ultimately suffers significant damage during the course of the movie, and its crew is reduced to just a few survivors by the end.
